Golden Globes 2020

Golden Globes 2020

“Once Upon A Time in Hollywood, nearly three hours long; Leonardo Di Caprio attended the premiere and by the end, his date was too old for him”

Award season is upon us once again. Cue the usual – Jennifer Aniston in a boring black dress, Scarlett Johanssen and a bunch of fawners making excuses for director Woody Allen, the person who married his own step-daughter; J-lo trying to upstage everyone with varying degrees of success.

Jlo
J-Lo doing the most!

I used to be so amped up to see who had won awards and what they were wearing but the season has lost some of it’s sparkle for me; probably because it focuses on the same people year after year. If I see Cate Blanchett turn on the faux-humility one more time … or Gwyneth Paltrow wearing something terrible that she clearly thinks is edgy, I will roll my eyes so hard, I’ll get a headache!

Goop and Poop
Hilarious.

The Carters were in attendance. JayZ and Beyoncé, (who was dripping in a pair of spectacular diamond earrings), served us royalty realness. However, shots of them just clapping – sometimes half-heartedly – was not enough to conjure up the excitement required to sustain a show.

Beyoncé and JayZ flexxin’ before the event.

At least, Billy Porter did not disappoint and I was surprisingly wowed by both Chris Evans and Wesley Snipes.

Zoey King wore an interesting illusion dress by Iris Van Herpen. Cynthia Erivo did not come to play – the silver hair, the dress and the Bulgari jewellery were perfection. Kerry Washington’s outfit seemed poorly-executed but I love the body jewellery. I would love to wear Zoe Kravitz’s get-up to a posh barbecue.

In beautiful couple news…

Ricky Gervais’s irreverent humour made the ceremony bearable and one of the best moments was seeing Robert DeNiro happily chuckling at his foul jokes. (*sigh* I love DeNiro)
